Helping patients and caregivers to understand medical information.

“It is difficult to find and understand the information when you are in stress and shock in the early days of the diagnosis”
Judith

“I was feeling lost and confused about health related information and this led into despair and hopelessness”
Natalie

We are a group of survivors, caregivers and people that have experienced the struggles with "medical jargon" first-hand.

Our experiences motivates us to make medical information more accessible and understandable to patients.

The open source solution SumMed helps patients navigate through the often complex and confusing world of medical information. So that patients and caregivers are empowered in managing the disease and make informed decisions.

SumMed’s journey started in 2020 at the DayOne Health Hack in Switzerland.

Our approach and focus

SumMed is currently focused on breast cancer. Breast cancer is by far the most common cancer among women: In the world, every 20 seconds a woman is diagnosed.

Through HIPAA-eligible natural language processing,  SumMed identifies medical jargon and finds meaningful explanations utilising publicly available data such as Merriam-Webster's Medical Dictionary and SumMed’s community content from patients and experts.
